The Good Samaritan

3

A man was going from Jerusalem,

Down into Jericho town.

On the road some robbers fell on him,

Knocked down to the ground.

They stripped him of all his clothes;

They beat him; left him for dead.

The man going from Jerusalem

Was left for dead.

As it happened then a priest went by.

He came down that very same road.

But he passed by on the other side;

No compassion by him was shown.

A Levite came to that place,

But passing he went straight on.

Now these were Jews but still they left the man

Left him for dead.

Then a traveller from Samaria,

Came to where the man lay as dead.

When he saw him he took pity and

Bandaged the wounds that bled.

Pouring out oil and wine

He put him on his donkey’s back,

Then he brought him to an inn

The man they’d left for dead.

At the inn, care it was given to him

The Samaritan he paid the fee.

Then he said “I’ll pay, look after him

Whatever the cost may be.”

Now which of these do you think

Was a neighbour to that man.

To that man who at the robbers hands

Was left for dead?
