Thomas's song

Jeff Lowe: vocals, backing vocals, guitar, keys , bass, drums

Thomas’s song is based on the second half of John chapter 20, when Jesus first appears to the gathered disciples, though Thomas is absent. ‘Doubting’ Thomas is skeptical but a week later Jesus appears again and invites Thomas to examine his wounds. Thomas is convinced and believes, saying ‘My Lord and God’.

On the evening of the first day of the week,
The disciples together in friendship did meet.
The doors were locked
in case the Jews came to seek them
And Jesus came and stood with them.
And showed them his hands and side.

“Peace be with you”, said Jesus, his life restored.
The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.

Peace be with you”, again said he.
“As the Father sent me, so I’m sending thee.
Receive the Holy Spirit and then you’ll see,
God’s plan to save the world through me.”
To save the world through me.”

“If any are forgiven through you, then it will be,
But if they’re not forgiven, they can’t be free,
They can’t be free, they can’t be free.”

Now Thomas called Didymus was one of the twelve.
He hadn’t seen Jesus for himself.
The disciples had told him,
The news was abroad.
“Thomas Didymus we’ve seen the Lord.”
“Thomas, we’ve seen the Lord.”

“O unless the nail marks in his hands are seen,
And I put my finger where the nails have been.
Unless I put my hand into his side,
I’ll never believe that Jesus is alive.”
I’ll never believe that he’s alive.”

A week later at the same house these few
Again met together and Thomas came too
The doors were locked but Jesus came through
And Jesus came and stood with them.
He said “Peace be with you”.

“O Thomas see my hands put your finger here.
Put your hand in my side, feel the wounds that cost me dear”.
Jesus said, “Stop doubting and believe”.
Then Thomas said, ”My Lord and God, I believe,
Lord I believe, My Lord my God.”

Then Jesus told him, because you’ve have seen me
You have believed that I am he,
But blest are those who have not seen,
And yet they have believed in me.
Yet they’ve believed in me.

Whilst with the disciples, Jesus did many marvellous signs.
But in this book there’s no record of those times.
But these are written here, the truth to show,
That Jesus is God’s Son, that you may know,
And believe, have new life, in His name.
