In ancient times ruled by kings of old
God gave his prophets words so bold
And warned then not to leave God’s way
Forsaking him to go astray.
God is with us,
Christ is with us,
He is our Emmanuel.
But most of them would leave the path
And so incur God’s righteous wrath
Yet still a remnant would remain
To bring the message of his name.
And the name which I will tell,
That name it is Emmanuel
For God would keep his people safe
That remnant who would keep the faith.
And now that Christ has come to earth
We at Christmas celebrate his birth.
His name brings hope - Emmanuel
For God has come with us to dwell.
Now Christ is God and in full time
The root and shoot of David’s line
Will come again to reign as King
His remnant to himself will bring.
And so our praises now we bring
To Christ the everlasting King.
Proclaim his name in all the earth
Bring praise to him who gives new birth.
