Psalm 147: Praise the LORD, how good it is to sing praises

Give praise to the LORD.
How good it is to sing praises to our God,
How pleasant and fitting to praise Him!
And sing to the LORD with thankful hearts;
Make music on the harp:
Make music to our God.
The LORD builds up Jerusalem;
He gathers the exiles of Israel.
He heals the broken-hearted
And binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars,
He calls them each by name.
The LORD sustains the humble,
He sustains the humble
But casts the wicked,
Casts the wicked to the ground.
O great is our Lord
Our God is mighty in power and in deed;
His wisdom knows no limit.
And sing to the LORD with thankful hearts;
Make music on the harp;
Make music to our God.
He covers the sky with clouds;
He supplies the earth with rain
He makes grass grow on the hills.;
Provides food for the cattle
And for the young ravens when they call.
His pleasure is not in the strength of a horse,
Nor his delight in the legs of a man.
The LORD He delights in those who fear him,
Who put their trust
In His unfailing love.
Extol the LORD,
And praise your God, Jerusalem,
How pleasant and fitting to praise Him!
And sing to the LORD with thankful hearts;
Make music on the harp,
Make music to our God.
He strengthens the bars of your gates
And blesses your people within you.
He grants peace to your borders
And satisfies you with the finest wheat.
He sends his commands to the earth;
His word runs swiftly.
He spreads the snow like wool
And scatters the frost like ashes.
He hurls down hail like pebbles.
Who can withstand his icy blast?
He sends his word and melts them;
He stirs up the breezes
And the waters flow.
Bridge
His word was revealed to Jacob,
His laws and decrees to Israel.
He’s done this for no other nation;
For they don’t know his laws,
They don’t know his laws,
They don’t know them,
They don’t know our God.
They don’t know our God.

Psalm 147 Reflection
Psalm 147 ‘Praise God his people’
The Greek version splits the psalm into, two ending the first part at verse 11. Here is God the Almighty: the universe, the seasons, the nations, the elements, are his to command. His Power sets him utterly above and beyond humankind. Yet his heart goes out to individuals; all who are hurt and unhappy. He takes pleasure in those who love and respect him. And he gives his people his word to live by. Praise the Lord!
