Bible quiz contestants probably like to point out that just as Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible, Psalm 117 is the shortest. But the significance of the 117th psalm is so much more than that prosaic fact. For although its brevity is unique, its call for all nations to praise and extol the God of Israel appears throughout the Psalter. In addition the New Testament succinctly declares that every man, woman and child on Earth owes “life and breath and everything else” to the Creator God. (Acts 17:25)
As the great preacher CH Spurgeon has written, “Though little in letter, Psalm 117 is exceedingly large in Spirit. Bursting beyond race or nationality, it calls on all humanity to praise the Lord.”
