I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever;
With my mouth I will make your faithfulness known.
I’ll declare that your love stands firm forever,
It’s established in heaven itself.
You said, “I’ve a covenant made,
With David my chosen one.
I have sworn to him, I’ll establish his throne;
Make firm through generations yet to come.
LORD the heavens declare and praise your wonders
And your faithfulness in the heavenly courts.
For who in the skies above compares with you?
In heav’n who is like the LORD?
In the council of the holy ones,
God is awesome and greatly feared;
For how awesome is/God the Almighty One;
With might and faithfulness surrounding him.
You rule the sea and when the waves mount up,
You still their surge, control their power.
And like one slain, your arm struck Egypt,
And you made all your enemies flee.
For the heavens and earth are yours;
All the world and all in it.
At the sound of your name mountain heights sing out for joy.
Your hand is strong, your arm endowed with power.
Justice and righteousness support your throne;
And faith and love stream out from you.
How blessed are they who’ve learned to follow you;
Who walk in your presence, LORD.
They rejoice in you all day long;
Celebrating your righteousness.
For you are their glory their strength and shield.
All we have belongs to Israel’s God.
.
In a vision you once spoke, to your people; you said:
I’ve raised up a warrior with strength.
I’ve anointed my faithful servant David,
And with oil I’ve anointed him.
And my hand will sustain him;
And my arm it will strengthen him.
And the wicked will never, they’ll not oppress him.
I’ll crush his foes and strike his adversaries
My faithful love will always be with him,
and through my name he’ll be lifted high.
I will set his hand over seas and rivers;
And he’ll call me Father God, my Rock.
I have saved him, my firstborn son;
Most exalted of the kings of earth.
My cov’nant love will never fail.
His kingdom last as long as heaven endures.
“If his sons scorn my law do’nt keep my statutes;
And ignore my decrees; don’t keep my commands,
I will punish their sin with the rod and with flogging,
But I’ll not take my love from him.
I will not change my covenant,
Or betray what my lips have said.
Once for all I have sworn: David’s line will endure,
As long as sun and moon are in the sky.
But you have rejected, spurned, been angry
And renounced your cov’nant with David the king.
You’ve defiled his crown, and broken through his walls
And left all his house in ruins.
All who pass by have plundered him;
His neighbours pour scorn on him.
You’ve exalted his foes, made his enemies boast:
His splendour’s at an end, his throne cast down.
All the days of his youth are cut short and he’s left
With shame the only mantle covering him.
How long, LORD will you hide, will it be forever?
How long will your great wrath burn like fire?
Remember how fleeting is the life you made,
Who lives but does not see death.
LORD where is your former love,
Which to David you faithfully swore?
Remember O LORD,, how your servant’s been mocked,
And born the taunts of all his enemies.
They have mocked each step of your anointed One,
But let us Praise the LORD and say Amen
Yes praise the LORD forever, say Amen.

Psalm 89 Reflection
Psalm 89 a hymn and prayer
The Hebrew title is “by Ethan the Ezrahite
The Psalmist sings the story of God‘s faithful love to Israel; his covenant and promise to David of an everlasting dynasty of kings. He rejoices in the power and justice of the creator God but in verse 18 the tone changes dramatically. God is accused of breaking faith with his king. Where now are the promises of old? Where are the proofs of former love? How long ? Verse 52 at the end is not related to what has gone before. It is the doxology added to the end of the third book of psalms.
