Psalms 42 & 43: As a hart longs for cool flowing streams

Listen on Spotify, Amazon or Apple Music
As a hart longs for cool flowing streams,
So my soul longs to find You O God,
My soul thirsts for God
For the living God the Lord.
When shall I approach him,
Cast my eyes upon The Lord.
My tears have been my food
Thro' all the day and all the night.
And men say to me continually
Where is your God?
All these things I remember
As I pour out my soul to You.
How I went with the throng
To the house of God our Lord.
Leading the procession,
Worshipping with shouts and songs,
Myriads of people
Gathered in that happy throng.
Why are you cast down O my soul,
Why are you disquieted within me.
Hope in God for will I again praise Him;
My help and my God.
My soul is cast down in me,
As in exile I remember thee;
The great river Jordan,
The heights of the mountain peaks.
Waves of deepest sorrow
They have swept right over me.
Like cataracts of water,
Thundering down to the sea.
By day the Lord
Shows his steadfast love,
At night his song is with me,
As I pray to my God.
So I say to my God and my rock,
Tell me why have you forgotten me,
Why am I so sad,
Cast down by the enemy.
Crushed by all their insults
As they turn and stare at me;
As they say to me continually,
“Where is your God?”
Why are you so cast down O my soul,
Why are you so disturbed within my mind.
I will put all my trust in God,
And I will yet praise his name.
My Saviour and my God and Lord.
Lord declare me innocent of wrong,
Plead my cause against ungodly men.
Don’t give me up to them
To suffer and grieve again.
You’re my stronghold now as then, my God.
Lord please send your light and send your truth.
Guide me and lead me safely back to you;
To Zion your Holy Hill,
Where I’ll play on the harp until,
Your house with our praises fill, my Lord.
