Psalm 71: In You O LORD I have taken refuge (ftg Carol Brewster)

In you, O Lord, I have taken refuge;
So let me Lord never be put to shame.
Come and rescue me and deliver me,
Lord in your righteousness;
Turn your ear and save me Lord,
From the grasp of wicked men.
Be my rock and refuge,
To which I can always go.
Give the command to save me;
Deliver me from the hands,
Deliver me from the hands of wicked men.
For you have been my hope, O Sovereign Lord,
And you have been my confidence since youth.
From my birth I have relied on you;
You brought me from the womb,
And I will ever praise you Lord:
My refuge and my rock.
All day long my mouth’s filled
With thanks and my praise to you.
As I declare your splendour Lord;
My life has shown all the great things,
My life has shown all the great things your hands have done.
When I am old Lord, don’t cast me away.
When strength is gone, please don’t forsake me Lord.
For my enemies they plot and scheme,
Conspire against my life;
They say, "God has forsaken him”,
So let’s catch him and take him away.
Be not far from away from me,
O my God be quick to help.
May those who want to harm me,
Be covered over with scorn,
Be covered over with scorn; perish in disgrace.
But as for me, I’ll put my hope in you.
And as for me, I’ll praise you more and more.
My mouth will tell of your righteousness,
Your salvation all day long,
And though it’s more than I understand,
I’ll praise your acts O Lord.
I’ll proclaim your righteousness;
It’s yours Lord, it’s yours alone.
I’ll declare all your marvellous deeds,
You’ve taught me since I was young,
And taught me since I was in – was in my youth.
O when I am old and grey stay with me God,
‘Till I’ve declared to those who’re yet to come:
Your righteousness which reaches to the skies;
The great things you have done.
For who is like you Lord our God:
Great in power and great in might!
Though you’ve shown me trouble,
My life you restore again.
Out of the depths you raise me;
My honour you will increase,
My honour Lord you’ll increase; and comfort me.
So I will sing God’s praise upon the harp:
I will sing praise to you upon the lyre,
For your faithfulness, Israel’s Holy One,
My lips will shout for joy,
And I am he you delivered Lord,
And I’ll keep praising you.
All day long my tongue will tel
Of all your righteous acts.
All those who wanted to harm me;
They’ve all been put to shame,
Their minds have been confused
And put to shame.
