Vindicate me by your might.
Hear my prayer God;
Listen to my words,

Strangers are attacking me;
Ruthless men they seek my life –
They’re men without regard,
Men with no regard,

Surely God is my help;
The Lord is the One who sustains me.
Let evil deeds recoil,
On those who slander me;

Psalm 54 A cry for help
According to the Hebrew title, this is David’s appeal to God after the Ziphite’s betrayed his position to Saul in 1 Samuel. The plea is followed by trust. The promise of a thank offering shows the psalmist’s confidence that God will answer his prayer.
