Psalm 24: The earth is the LORD’s (ftg A Small Choir)

Psalm 24: The earth is the LORD’s (ftg A Small Choir)

The earth is the Lord's

and everything that’s in it;

And all of those who live in it.

For God founded the earth,

By rolling back the waters.

By rolling back the sea.

Lift your heads and fling wide the gates

And swing open you ancient doors for him.

The King of glory comes,

Our King so strong and mighty,

Who goes to war for us.

Who may climb the hill

The mountain of the LORD God,

And who may stand in his holy place?

He who has clean hands;

Who does not trust in idols

Or lift his heart to false gods.

Then He’ll receive much blessing

from our Lord and Saviour,

Blessing and righteousness from God.,

For such is his grace

to all those who will seek him;

To all who will seek his face.

Lift your heads and fling wide the gates

And swing open you ancient doors for him

The King of glory comes,

Our King so strong and mighty,

Who goes to war for us.

Who is this King

Who comes? - the king of glory.

He’s the Lord and he’s our God.

Who is this King

This king so strong and mighty,

Goes into battle for us?

He’s the Lord,  the Almighty God,

He’s our King and he goes to war for us,

The King of glory comes,

Our King so strong and mighty,

Who goes to war for us.

Psalm 24 Reflection

“The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world and all who live in it, for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.” Many modern people don’t believe that. By casting out the concept of a creator God and intelligent design, they have embraced a belief that all life has morphed from a primordial soup by an undetected, unguided process acting on random mutations and variations. David knew better; not only did he believe in the creator God, he also believed that it was possible to communicate with him. But the psalm prescribes some conditions: to approach God, people must have clean hands and a pure heart.

This is only possible if God himself does the cleansing and this comes about through the work that Jesus undertook on the cross. By some means that only God knows, this cleansing process was available retrospectively to the David of history, just as it is today to modern believers.
