When they took Jesus down from the cross,

His friends they were mourning their loss,

In a new tomb his body they laid,

A great heavy stone sealed the grave.

For three days he lay in that tomb,

It was cold in the darkness and gloom.

The great heavy stone sealed the space,

And soldiers they guarded that place.

But Jesus he rose from the dead,

Just as he always had said.

The great heavy stone rolled away;

No soldiers could make Jesus stay.

Yes Jesus he rose from the dead,

Just as he always had said.

The great heavy stone rolled away;

No soldiers could make Jesus stay.

Who rolled the stone away

That sealed the Saviour's tomb.

Hear what the angels say

To scatter doubt and gloom.

He is not here, he is risen,

Why seek the living amongst the dead.

He is not here, he is risen,

He is risen as he said.

God rolled the stone away

To show that Jesus lives.

Hear what the angels say,

What comfort their word gives.

He is not here, he is risen,

Why seek the living amongst the dead.

He is not here, he is risen,

He is risen as he said.

But Jesus he rose from the dead,

Just as he always had said.

The great heavy stone rolled away;

No soldiers could make Jesus stay.

An Easter song, retelling the events leading up to the resurrection of Jesus. An older children's song 'Who rolled the stone away' by David Saltwell is sandwiched in the middle.
